SUSAN LURIE, MD
Board Certificated Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist
Welcome to my practice!
I am a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with more than 30 years of experience in all levels of psychiatric care. I specialize in anxiety and mood disorders. I also have expertise with the full spectrum of difficulties that present in youth, including ADHD, psychosis, eating disorders, and high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder. I treat adults, as well.
I am a seasoned psychopharmacologist. I am thoughtful and judicious about the use of medication, understanding that it is only part of a comprehensive treatment intervention. I recognize that children and adolescents, in particular, are influenced by many other external factors that also affect their care.
I believe in collaborative health care, especially in connecting patients to the right form of psychotherapy and the right therapist/patient "fit." I enjoy working in conjunction with other professionals - including pediatricians and therapists - and provide some therapy myself.
I think teaching makes me a better doctor, and in 2022 I will be supervising in my private practice setting for the first time. A second year medical student from CU Anschutz will be sitting in with me one afternoon per week.
In addition to her private practice, Susan Lurie, MD, is a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She has been involved in residency training for many years, and received the 2013 Dane G. Prugh Award for "outstanding and inspirational teaching".
She served as the Colorado delegate to the Assembly, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) from 2013-2017, and is past President (2010) of the Colorado Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Society (CCAPS).
She has been nominated a Castle Connolly Regional Top Doctor from 2013-2022 and a 5280 Magazine Top Doctor in 2023.
